Tools - Power

Extension lead with two sockets.

An extension lead is a vital bit of equipment for light, for power tools and the radio. Even now I have power points I still need it to use the drill at the edges of the loft. A double socket is useful especially if you want light and tunes or to use a drill and see what you are doing. I also sometimes use a 'four gang' instead.

This is a very cheap drill (the cheapest I could find). I have removed the other hand grip (next to the chuck) as I usually use it one handed. Removing the grip makes the drill lighter and theirfore easier to use one handed. Wood is soft so you don't need to apply lots of force to the drill. While balancing on the rafters you may need the other hand to steady yourself.

Drill with black tape

Since the above photograph was taken I have had to add a small block of wood held on with insulating tape to stop the selector knob going to "hammer action" which it would do autonimously, unecesarily and noisily. This probably means the gears where not properly meshing properly and damaging themselves. This is why you don't select hammer action while the drill is turning. This annoying feature would not be present on a more expensive drill.
